Abstract:?Organizing for Regional Transportation Operations Conference,? conducted January 11-12, 2002 in Washington, D.C., was a joint initiative of five national associations and the U.S. Department of Transportation. The purpose of the conference was to discuss the challenges of multi-jurisdictional partnerships for metropolitan regional transportation operations and to establish potential next steps for supporting and advancing these partnerships nationwide. The conference featured three interactive panel discussions: 1) Achieving Results in a Cooperative Environment, 2) Engaging the Public Safety and Emergency Response Communities and 3) Involving the MPOs. Sponsoring associations were American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (AMPO), Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America), and the Transportation Research Board (TRB). 2 Appendices. 61 p.
