Abstract:A previous NHTSA study in 2013 reported that females have a higher estimated fatality risk than males in comparable crashes (i.e., from similar physical impacts) as front row occupants when the full history of all fatal crashes are considered. This report updates NHTSA’s previous analysis to examine the effect of sex on driver-side or right-front passenger-side occupant fatalities in fatal crashes, focusing on recent model year (MY) vehicles with advanced occupant protection technologies for various vehicle types and impact types.
