Abstract:

Dale Thompson and Gene McHale provide an overview of the US DOT’s new data capture program. The vision of the Data Capture and Management Program (DCM) is active acquisition and systematic provision of integrated, multi-source data to enhance current operational practices and transform future surface transportation systems management. Their work focuses on a connected vehicle program where vehicles collect and exchange data with other vehicles. As that data is being shared, there’s an opportunity for safety applications and improved transit coordination.
