There are differing perspectives as well as many lawsuits underway in this area of copyright law. Generative AI companies and Large Language Models mine data from the internet to train AI. Authors, researchers, and other creators want credit and compensation for their original works when used to train AI. While some AI companies obtain consent when they use data scraping tools, others do not, claiming that the use of AI does not trigger the rights protected by the Copyright Act and if it did it would fall under the Doctrine of Fair Use.
