Abstract:This paper examines the safety performance of passenger carrier drivers. Special emphasis is given to the motorcoach segment. A model that investigates the contribution of driver factors on the number of State-reportable crashes in which the driver was involved is presented for passenger carrier drivers. The findings suggest that the following factors are significantly related to the likelihood of a crash occurrence: driver weight, height, gender, and employment stability as well as previous driver and vehicle violations and past crashes. The results could have significance regarding the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) imperative to improve safety of
the passenger carrier segment of the industry.
